Bookstart Baby Pack: For babies aged 0-12 months

In your baby's first year you'll receive your free Bookstart Baby Pack from your health visitor, or other health professional.

Please ask at your local library if you have difficulty in getting hold of your pack.

What's in the pack?

Your Bookstart Baby Pack has been carefully chosen to include everything you need to get started sharing stories, rhymes and songs with your baby.

  • Two board books 
  • Bookstart Rhyme Poster
  • Babies Love Books - a guidance leaflet on sharing books, written and illustrated by Catherine and Lawrence Anholt. Also available free of charge in other languages

My Treasure Bag of Stories: For children aged 36 months

When they are three years old your child will receive their free Treasure Bag of Stories from your local library.

What's in the pack?

The Treasure Bag of Stories has been carefully chosen to include everything you need to get started sharing stories, rhymes and songs with your preschooler.

It includes two books chosen especially for preschoolers, a list of handy book recommendations, tips for reading to preschoolers and more.

  • Two picture books (titles may vary)
  • Treasure Bag
  • My First Marks booklet
  • A pack of Crayola coloured pencils
  • A Book of Ideas - tips for sharing books with your toddler

Booktouch: For blind and partially sighted children up to the age of four

The booktouch pack includes two specially chosen touch and feel books, a cotton bag, a rhymetime CD and advice on sharing books with blind and partially sighted children. 

Blind and partially sighted children are entitled to this free booktouch pack in addition to the bookstart packs above.

Bookshine: For deaf children up to the age of four 

The bookshine pack includes two specially chosen books designed to stimulate children's senses, including a touch and feel book and a nursery rhyme book featuring BSL signs.  The pack also includes a cotton bag, a place mat and advice on sharing books with deaf children.

Deaf children are entitled to this free bookshine pack in addition to the bookstart packs above.
