Every City of York council library in York has at least 2 computers. You can use them to:
Members of the library may use a computer for free for up to two hours a day (subject to availability). The computers are set up to allow you to split this two hour allowance into as many sessions in a day as you want and sessions don't all have to be at the same library.
If you want to use a computer for longer than two hours you may do so providing no one else is waiting. You will be charged at the non-member rate for any additional time. Library members may also book a computer in advance.
If you are a visitor to York, or choose not to join the library you are still welcome to use the computers. There is a charge for using a computer if you are not a library member. See the charges page for details.
If you are under the age of 16 a parent or carer will need to agree that you may use the computers.
If you are a library member you can book a session on a computer up to a week in advance. The computers are used heavily, so it is a good idea to book to avoid disappointment.
You can book in person in the library or by telephoning or emailing the library you wish to use. If we are not able to offer you the time you require we will offer you an alternative.
When you make a booking we will need to know:
If you need to use a PC with special features (like a scanner, a webcam or a large monitor) please say so when you book so we can allocate you an appropriate PC.
Some of the PCs in the Central Lending library are restricted to 15 minutes 'express' use.
To use a computer you will need to 'log on' to it. To do this you will need to know your library card number and your library PIN (personal identity number). If you don't know your PIN a member of staff will be happy to look it up for you next time you visit the library.
To use the computer as a non-member just ask a member of staff and they will log on for you.
Staff are available to offer basic support. If you need assistance that we are not able to provide in the library we can refer you to people who provide training.
