It is free to join the library and to borrow books. There are charges for some extra services and facilities.
Computer use
- Library members: First two hours free. Additional sessions charged at non-member rate
- Non-members: £1 per session, which is up to an hour
Printing
- Printing from computers in black and white: 15p
- Printing from computers in colour: 70p
- Microfilm/microfiche printing: A4 50p; A3 75p (Explore York only)
Photocopying
- Black and White copies: A4 10p; and A3 20p per sheet.
Black and White photocopying is available at our Explore Centres at Acomb, Clifton, Haxby, New Earswick, Tang Hall and York
- Colour copies: A4 50p; and A3 £1 per sheet.
Colour photocopying is available at Explore York and Explore Acomb
- For delicate Archival material, Explore York staff will produce photocopies for you. The charges for this service are listed on the page Charges for Services in Archives and Local History.
USB sticks
USB memory sticks are available for sale:
- 4GB available at all libraries for £5
- 8GB will shortly be available at larger libraries only, priced at £7.50
- 16GB will shortly be available at York Explore only, priced at £13
Membership
It is free to join the library. If you are a York resident, and you wish your library card to act as a YorkCard too (enabling you to claim resident's discounts at leisure facilities), this costs £2 for adults (free for under 18s).
Requests
If you want to borrow an item which is on loan to someone else you can request to be put on a waiting list, and we will let you know when it is available. This service is free of charge. You can collect the item at any York library.
If you want to request something which is not owned by City of York library service we can get it from another library service. The charge for this is £10 per item.
