It is free to join the library and to borrow books. There are charges for some extra services and facilities.

Audio visual subscription

For £18.00 a year you can take out an AV subscription, which lets you borrow DVDs, CDs and language courses for a reduced rate. See individual items for details of savings.

Library members with a Young Person's ticket (12-17 year olds) automatically receive a free AV subscription.

Computer use

• Library members: First two hours free. Additional sessions charged at non-member rate
• Non-members: £1.00 per session, which is up to 15 minutes

Printing

• Printing from computers in black and white: 10p
• Printing from computers in colour: 50p
• Microfilm/microfiche printing: A4 30p, A3 50p (central library only)

Photocopying

• Black and White copies: A4 10p; and A3 20p per sheet.
  Black and White photocopying is available at Acomb, Bishopthorpe, Clifton, Haxby, Huntington, New Earswick, Tang Hall and York Central Libraries
  
• Colour copies: A4 50p; and A3 £1 per sheet.
  Colour photocopying is available at York Central Library and Acomb Library Learning Centre.

Disc repair

Professional cleaning of scratched and damaged discs: £2 per disc.

This state of the art service repairs and restores discs, returning them to their 'as new' condition.  Drop your discs in to any library.  The service is available for all types of discs (DVD, Blu-ray DVD, CD, XBOX and XBOX 360, PlayStation 1,2 and 3, HD DVD, Wii and all rewritable discs).

USB sticks

USB memory sticks are available for sale at all libraries. A 1GB memory stick costs £5.

Information/research services

(York Central Library only)

• Copying printed information: price of photocopies plus £3 handling fee
• Local studies, family history & general reference information research: £20.00 per hour research fee*

It is free to join the library.

Requests

If you want to borrow an item which is on loan to someone else you can request to be put on a waiting list, and we will let you know when it is available. This service is free of charge.

If you want to request something which is not owned by City of York library service we can get it from another library service. The charge for this is £6.00 per item (£3.00 for over 60s).

Replacement library/York card

The charge for a replacement card is £2.00.
