Before you apply to join City of York Supply Agency as support staff (teaching assistants, school clerical or technical staff) check you can answer 'yes' to all the questions below:

• Do you have a teaching support qualification and/or recent support experience in a school?
• Do you live within commuting distance of York or are you planning to relocate in the near future?
• Are you available to work in next three months?

If you cannot answer 'yes' to all the questions see below for eligibility for support staff.

Applying

Please send the completed application form to us. We will then request your references and will be in touch with you again when these have been received. If your references are satisfactory you will then be sent a pre-employment medical questionnaire, a Criminal Records Bureau form, equal opportunities form and bank details form and asked to attend for an interview.

If one or more of your referees are based in school as we are now in a school holiday period there may be some delay in obtaining  references.

Bearing in mind the number of applicants for supply work already received this summer, and the likely delay with references, any interviews will now be in late September 2008 at the earliest.

We aim to contact you within a few weeks of your interview let you know if you have been cleared, but this can take a while so please be patient. Please do not apply more than three months before you are available to begin work.

We look forward to adding you to our list and offering you work in York schools when all the checks have been satisfactorily completed. However, please note we cannot guarantee that supply work will be available, and you will be under no obligation to accept any work we might offer.

Eligibility for support staff

You need to have recent experience to join the agency. If you don't have experience you may wish to consider volunteering in a local school or doing a course. You can find more information on the Workers' Educational Association website or York College website. The council is not responsible for the content or reliability of external websites.

If you are not available to work in the next three months you should return to this site no more than 3 months before you are available to work.

Schools

Schools within reach of York wishing to arrange supply cover should telephone us with details of their requirements. We are happy to organise cover ranging from occasional half or full days to whole terms. Our charges are very competitive and all our staff have been fully checked and cleared.
