Home Grown 2011 - the results

28 nominations were made and the winners attended a ceremony at the Mansion House.

Best individual garden - Paul and Ann Eastwood, Nether Poppleton

“The mix of flowers and vegetables, all looking so healthy, and the great use of space shouts out that these two are excellent gardeners,” said one of the judges.

Best communal garden - Marjorie Waite Court

Choosing the communal ardent winner was a tough task for the judges.

“Any one of the five entries were good enough to win. But at Marjorie Waite Court, everyone had an input which made for a superb community spirit and a beautiful space for all the tenants to enjoy,” said Mike Walker, one of the contest's three judges.

Under 16s and schools - Clifton with Rawcliffe Primary

Juicy strawberries and fragrant herbs are just two reasons why pupils at Clifton with Rawcliffe Primary have won £150 of garden vouchers! The judges found loads of great things: the pupils know lots about their plants, each one is labelled and the equipment is the right size for the youngest pupils to join in.

Best vegetable garden or allotment - unfortunately there were no entries in 2011
