We offer grants to help landlords bring certain existing tenanted houses in multiple occupation (HMO) up to the council's decency standard.
From the 1 April 2006 landlords grants will only be available for houses in multiple occupation that require and hold a licence.
To qualify for assistance a council officer must first inspect the HMO and provide a detailed schedule. The landlord must be the freeholder of the property or have a lease with at least five years unexpired term at the time of application. Existing licensed houses in multiple occupation must comply with the necessary planning permissions prior to a grant application being made.
We will provide a schedule of works eligible for grant assistance.
The grant limit is 50% of the cost of the eligible works up to a maximum of £4,000.
There will be limited budget each year for this assistance and enquiries will be dealt with in date order.
Only one grant approval per property will be available.
These grants are repayable should the property be sold or no longer used for letting within five years of completion of the works.
Lettings as holiday lets or to family members are not eligible.
