Our 8th Annual York Landlords' conference was held on the 17th March 2008 at the University of York St John. The purpose of the conference was to enhance the knowledge of landlords, letting agents and all those involved in the private rented sector within the city.

• Fire Safety: Guidance, standards and protocol
• Energy Efficiency: Energy Performance Certificates and SAP ratings 
• Tenancy Deposit Scheme: Led by representatives from both the custodial and insurance based schemes as well as a representative from the National Landlord's Association for the Landlord's perspective
• Local Housing Allowance: An overview of the LHA by the Project Co-ordinator for the City of York.

Delegate feedback

165 delegates attended the 8th Annual Landlords Conference and 60 of those delegates completed Conference Evaluation forms. When asked what they thought of the conference overall, 86% of delegates indicated that the event was excellent or good.

Delegates were also asked to make suggestions for issues that should be covered at future landlord events.  Suggestions included:

• changes to Capital Gains Tax
• general legal procedures and responsibilities of landlords
• insurance implications for HMO's
• electrical and furniture regulations
• information about council tax exemptions certificates for students
• exhibits or speakers from letting agents and University accommodation offices
