Changing the name of your property

You (if you are the property owner) can choose to name your property if you follow our guidelines.

Apply to change the name of your property online

Go straight to the property naming online form

We are responsible for approving changes to the names of properties.  If you are a property owner you can use this form to apply for permission to name your property.
Online form

You must give your name, the present full address of the property and the new preferred name.  You will receive an email acknowledgement.

What happens next?

We will contact Royal Mail to see if they have knowledge of a similar named property locally. We also check our information systems. If there is an issue with your preferred name we will request alternatives. If the name is satisfactory then the new address is registered and you will be informed.

The updated name is then sent to the Royal Mail, the emergency services, Ordnance Survey and internal offices. We will supply you with a letter of confirmation of the address and postcode which should be kept with the deeds to your property.

It is your responsibility to let your personal contacts and the public utilities know about the new name of the property.
