York Mediation Service

How can Mediation help you?

Mediation is about helping people who have a disagreement with other people to sort out a problem as quickly and simply as possible.

Mediators can visit you to listen to your problems and can help you work out an agreement with the other person. You don’t have to meet directly with the other person and if mediation doesn’t work there are other options we can advise you on.

Mediation is voluntary and you can stop at any time.

Who are the mediators?

They are trained mediators who:

  • don’t take sides
  • are there to help
  • listen to what you say and how you feel
  • keep things confidential

Contact us when..

  • you need support to have good relationships with neighbours, at school or at work
  • you have a disagreement which could be helped by a trained outsider
  • if you have a problem with family, neighbours or a landlord and are at risk of becoming homeless

The following Mediation Services are also available:

  • within the work place
  • between parents and their child’s school
  • in cases of anti-social behaviour in schools
  • in cases of possible homelessness

You can contact us on telephone (01904) 553838 for neighbour mediation service on (01904) 553840 for mediation service relating to schools or you can email us on mediation@york.gov.uk
