Adapting homes

If you have a disability and your home causes you problems, it may be possible to reduce these by altering or adapting your home to help you live life as fully and independently as possible

  In any emergency, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, you can contact warden call from your home
• Council housing adaptations
  If you have a disability and your council home causes you problems, it may be possible to reduce these by altering or adapting your home to help you live life as fully and independently as possible
• Disabled facility grant for a private property
  We offer grants to help people who have a disability adapt their home to make it easier for them to continue to live there or maintain their independence
• Occupational therapy
  We aim to help people of all ages (adults and children) to remain as independent as possible by advising on the use of equipment or ways to adapt the home
• Property alteration by tenant
  Every secure tenant has the right to improve their home. You need permission from your estate manager in writing and the work must be carried out to the guidelines given
• Specialist equipment
  We loan a range of equipment to disabled people and their carers to help with walking, toileting, bathing, moving and handling, home nursing, and vision and hearing difficulties
• York Repair Grant
  We offer grants to help people with the cost of repairs and other urgent works that affect their health or safety
