While you are in the process of being approved as an adopter you will be supported by a family placement worker. Once you have been approved your family placement worker will be closely involved in the placement of a child with you.
After a child comes to live with you, regular support is available. Visits will be made by the child's social worker and your family placement worker.
After an adoption order is made, further support is available if you need it. There is an adopters group that all adopters are welcome to come to. This group meets regularly for support, social events and training on issues such as discussing adoption with your child.
Financial support is available for prospective adopters on low income. This is means tested. A grant may also available to buy certain items for children when they are placed for adoption. You can find out what other benefits you are entitled to on the child benefit and tax credits websites.
