Hearing impaired adults

We help vulnerable deaf adults who find it difficult to manage in a hearing world, or who are at risk in someway. For example, we help deaf people who get support from mental health services. We also help customers and carers who are not coping at home in caring for themselves or others.

We employ staff with a range of specialist skills. We works with York's Children's Services Team and offers advice and support to deaf parents and staff. The team also liaises and works with their Children's Disability Team, which provides a social work service for deaf children and their families

Equipment

We provide a wide range of specialist equipment for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Equipment includes:

  • amplified and flashing doorbells,
  • loop systems to help hard of hearing people hear the television,
  • amplified or text phones.

The Resource Centre for Deafened People assesses, provides advice and information and issues specialist equipment for us. They also provide a volunteer service.
