The average person uses over 300 carrier bags per year - Why be average?

In York we want to help residents reduce the amount of carrier bags they use, firstly by selling our own reusable jute bag at various outlets across York and secondly by helping villages to become 'Plastic Bag Free'.

Local retailers are now also recognising the problems with single use plastic carrier bags, here's what some shops in York are doing to help consumers reduce their use of plastic carrier bags:

• Homebase offer paper bags as an alternative to plastic bags
• Tesco sell their own reusable bags and offer clubcard points when customers reuse bags
• Sainsbury's sell their own reusable bags
• Asda sell their own reusable bags
• Rymans Stationary shop sell York's jute bag
• Ashby's Delicatessen sell York's jute bag
• Brunswick Organic Nursery sell York's jute bag
