Recycling in schools

From the end of January 2008, schools will be offered recycling collections for paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and cans.  Please contact our Waste Strategy Unit for information about how to take part in the recycling collections.

Two free home composting bins and five caddies are also available to every school in York.  These bins can be used for composting uncooked food waste such as fruit and vegetable peelings, as well as garden waste and a small amount of torn up cardboard from the school.  Schools must request these containers through the council.  A member of the composting support team from the Waste Resource Action Programme, a non government body who is promoting the offer throughout York and North Yorkshire, will provide support to accompany the bins.

Please contact us for more information.  Council Officers are also available to visit schools to talk about waste and recycling.

The Schools Waste Action Club no longer operates in York Schools.
