What is Zero Waste York?

Zero Waste is a simple concept. It’s about going even further to ensure we reduce the impact of waste on our local environment as far as possible. This means minimising the waste that we produce, conserving resources and recovering all value from waste in clever simple ways.

How can you Zero your Waste?

The good news is that there are loads of things you can do to help make York a Zero Waste place. Here are some examples of simple changes you can make:

• Invest in a reusable bag to take shopping and remember to use it!
• Donating your unwanted clothes and furniture to charity shops or reuse organisations
• check out our A to Z of reuse and recycling to give your junk a new lease of life
• Sign up to avoid junk mail all helps to make York a greener, more sustainable city
• Grab some free compost at one of our compost give away events
• Start home composting to make your own free compost
• Join us for the sustainable food day on 23 September at the York Food Festival

Events in 2011 included a Sustainable food day at the York Food & Drink Festival, a programme of free re-use, repair and rejuvenate workshops and a Christmas Choose2Reuse fair.

Climate Week 2012

12 to 18 March is Climate Week.

Climate Week is Britain's biggest climate change campaign, inspiring a new wave of action to create a sustainable future. Culminating in a week of activities, it showcases practical solutions from every sector of society.
