Removing large household items

The council operates a service for collecting bulky household waste. You can have up to ten unwanted items of furniture and household items removed a week. All garden waste must be bagged up and each bag of garden waste or other small items count as one item.

For example, removing a bed that included base, mattress and headboard would count as three items.

Request a collection

To request a collection contact the York Pride Action Line or complete the removing bulky household items online form.

Charges

Up to ten items costs £27.00.

We will invoice you after the items have been collected or you can include debit card payment details on the form. You can pay your invoice online using City of York Council online payments.

Where to leave items for collection

Items for collection can be left outside in a suitable place where we can easily access them. This means that items could be put out on a drive or in a garden, a number of days before the collection (but not on a public path, the highway or verge).  You do not need to be present for the collection to be made.

Remember you can dispose of waste free of charge at your nearest household waste recycling centre.
