City Of York Council

Removing large household items

The council operates a service for collecting bulky household waste. You can have up to ten unwanted items of furniture and household items removed a week. All garden waste must be bagged up and each bag of garden waste or other small items count as one item.

For example, removing a bed that included a base, mattress and headboard would count as three items.

To request a collection contact the York Customer Centre on 01904 551 551

There is a charge for this service. Please have your payment details to hand when calling.

Where to leave items for collection

Items for collection can be left outside in a suitable place where we can easily access them. This means that items could be put out on a drive or in a garden, a number of days before the collection (but not on a public path, the highway or verge). You do not need to be present for the collection to be made.

Remember you can dispose of waste free of charge at your nearest household waste recycling centre.
