Over 1000 people and 300 organisations in York produced the York Local Agenda.

Ecological footprint
The ecological footprint is a tool that works out the amount of land that you need to provide a population with all their resources and to absorb all their waste
Global sustainability issues
Towards a sustainable York is about taking local action to tackle global issues. There are a number of existing and emerging issues which are of global significance and which will require a co-operative and co-ordinated international response
LA21 15 objectives
There are 15 objectives identified in York
Organisations who have signed up to LA21
The local agenda 21 signaturies group comprises seventeen York based organisations from all sectors, supported by the City of York Council
Steering group
The steering group for LA21 is smaller that the signatory group and is working on implementing the local agenda 21 strategy
What is sustainable development?
Sustainable development means 'development that meets the needs of today without compromising the ability of future generations from meeting their needs'
What we are doing
We have many roles in promoting sustainability and in helping York to become a more sustainable city

York achieved Fairtrade City status on 3 March 2004
