City of York Council is working with the York-based Energy Saving Trust advice centre to deliver an innovative project aimed at reducing the city's carbon emissions and helping residents lower their household electricity bills. Householders in certain areas of the city will be encouraged to install Solar PV (photovoltaic) panels using local companies.
Householders living in potentially suitable homes will receive information about how systems work, associated costs and payback periods.
"Now is a great time to consider installing solar panels on your home" says Sophie Smith, Project Coordinator. "The cost of PV panels is coming down as demand increases and more importantly, people can take advantage of the governments Feed in Tariff, which pays a fixed amount for the electricity you generate. By installing Solar PV you'll also protect yourself against increases in the cost of fuel."
It's not just residents in the targeted areas that can benefit from Solar PV. If your home has a south facing roof contact the Energy Saving Trust advice centre to find out more about the scheme and get answer to any questions you may have about Solar PV.
