Rail noise
Railways are noisy. We are unable to take action against the noise from the normal day to day running of a railway. However, if the rail operator or rail network are behaving negligently, eg not repairing faulty track or rail stock and this leads to additional noise, please contact the environmental protection unit (EPU).
If a new railway or tram line is to be built near your home, you may be entitled to a grant to sound insulate your property under the Noise Insulation (Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems) Regulations 1996.
