Fireworks and parties can be enjoyable, but thoughtless use of fireworks can cause disturbance and distress to people and animals. If you plan to have fireworks at a private party or organised display you should be aware that it is now illegal to let fireworks off between 11pm and 7am. On Bonfire Night (5th November) fireworks are allowed until midnight. On other cultural and religious events such as Diwali (usually in October/November), Chinese New Year (usually in January/February) and New Year's Eve, fireworks are allowed until 1am. The Police enforce these new powers and you may receive a fine or even imprisonment if you break the law.

In some cases a licence for the event may be required from the Council; contact the Council's licensing team for further advice:

It is also illegal for retailers to sell fireworks that are louder than 120 decibels.
