We are keen to promote micro level renewable energy where possible in order to contribute towards a more sustainable city. Energy which is used at source is the most efficient way of utilising renewable energy.
Domestic wind turbines are now widely available and are becoming both a cost effective and environmentally friendly way of powering a home.
Planning permission may be required to erect a wind turbine at a dwelling house, you should check this with us before purchase. You can do this by completing and submitting a Householder Enquiry Form, which you can download on the right handside of this page.
In order for us to determine if planning permission is required we need to know the exact location of the proposed wind turbine on the dwelling. This can be illustrated through either a drawing or photographs, with the front of the property clearly labelled.
Generally wind turbines placed higher than the ridge of the roof or on an elevation of a dwelling fronting a highway will require planning permission. Planning permission would be required for wind turbines placed anywhere on the roof where the house is within a conservation area and listed building consent would be required in all cases for the erection of a wind turbine on a listed building.
When we respond to your enquiry we will let you know if a building control application is also required. We aim to respond to all enquiry forms within ten working days.
