Refuse Storage and Kerbside Collection
This guidance note forms non-statutory guidance to supplement the policies and
proposals of the City of York Local Plan Incorporating the 4th Set of
Changes.
You can download the advice note on the right hand side of this page.
The purpose of the note is to advise developers of the space requirements
and refuse collection arrangements that need to be taken into account when
proposing new housing schemes. Policy GP1 (Design) requires
development proposals to (h) provide individual or communal storage space for
waste recycling and litter collection. Policy MW7 (Temporary storage for
recyclable material) also requires new development to provide an appropriate
level of space for the temporary storage of recyclable material.
As the amount of domestic waste we recycle increases, it is becoming more
important that new development provides adequate and convenient storage
arrangements for recyclable materials. The note sets out how much space is
needed, what will be provided by the Council and how the material will be
collected form different types of properties.
