Find out when to apply for planning permission.

If you think you might need to apply for planning permission :

• Contact the planning section to tell the planning staff what you want to do and ask for their advice.
• If they think you need to apply for planning permission, ask them which application form you need.
  

You can then either:

• make an application (and payment) online via the Planning Portal,
• download and print off copies of the forms from planning application forms,
• call into our reception at 9 St Leonard's Place and collect the forms yourself,
• request them to be posted out to you.

Plans and maps for planning applications

Your planning application must include plans showing exactly what is being proposed.

You will need:

• a location plan - normally an ordnance survey plan
• a set of plans showing the existing building or site
• floor plans and elevations normally at 1/50 or 1/100 metric scale
• plans of the works proposed - normally floor plans as proposed, and elevations as proposed

Ordnance Survey plans

If you are submitting a planning application you will need a copy of the Ordnance Survey map of your property. This should be to a scale of at least 1:1250. We can provide you with five copies of this plan (from the council offices at 9 St Leonard's Place). There is a fee of £21 for these copies, to cover our costs and the Ordnance Survey licence that allows us to print these plans and please allow 24 hours for this service.

We will need the address of the property to which the planning application refers and the name, address and telephone number of the person ordering the maps

If you have difficulty collecting the maps we can post copies out once payment has been received (there will be a small charge for postage).
