Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)

The Statement of Community Involvement sets out how we plan to involve the community in the preparation and production of planning documents and making decisions on planning applications. It describes our standards for consultation with the bodies / communities / organisations involved and the different methods that will be used.

The adopted Statement of Community Involvement and accompanying adoption Statement are available to download below:

History of SCI Preparation

The preparation of the Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) has been undertaken in a number of stages.

As part of the SCI preparation the Council produced an initial draft document which was published for consultation between February and April 2006.

The documents prepared for the initial consultation can be downloaded below.

Submission to the Secretary of State

Following consultation on an initial draft, the draft was revised in response to comments.  The revised SCI was then submitted to the Secretary of State for examination.  As part of the examination the Submission Draft was made available for public comment.

The Submission document are available to view below.

Examination and Inspector's Report

Wendy Burton (BA DipTP MRTPI) was appointed to carry out the examination into the Statement of Community Involvement.  As part of the examination the Council prepared a report which summarised the Submission consultation and included copies of all the representations made at this stage (Regulation 31 Statement).  The examination was held through written representations and the document was judged to be sound.  The Regulation 31 Statement and Inspector's Report are available to download below.
