Many of York's riverside footpaths and parks regularly become unusable when river levels are high. These include Dame Judy Dench Walk, Kings Staith, Queens Staith, Tower Gardens, New Walk, Terry Avenue and Rowntree Park.
For more information on flooding contact the Environment Agency Floodline on 0845 9881188 or visit the Enviroment agency website (www.environment-agency.gov.uk).
Once river levels recede and when re-flooding is not thought to be imminent, riverside footpaths are cleared of silt, mud and debris. This is known locally as warping. For details on the council's approach to warping please download the PDF to the right of this page.
