Description

This is the largest and best known of York's historic strays. Micklegate Stray is made up of distinct areas: Scarcroft Green, Scarcroft, Hospital Fields and Hob Moor Allotments, Hob Moor, Little Hob Moor and the Knavesmire, home to the city's famous racecourse, and the Little Knavesmire.

Events

Micklegate Stray holds events licence under the Licensing Act 2003.  The Events and Festivals team can provide more information on organising an event at this site. Events on these sites are also controlled and managed through an Events protocol - see attachment on the right.

Buses

Buses run frequently from the city centre to Blossom Street, The Mount or Pulleyn Drive. See our webpage for bus services in York.

By bike

There is a signposted cycle route from the Millennium Bridge to Micklegate Stray. A cycle path around the south of the Knavesmire leads via York College to Sustrans Route 65 to Selby. There are also cycle paths to Acomb and Woodthorpe.

Parking

There is a pay and display car park on Nunnery Lane and limited on-street parking in the Albemarle Road area.
