Fishponds Wood and Beech Grove

Managed by City of York Council in consultation with the Friends of Fishponds Wood.

Access

Open access.  The main foot and cycle paths give easy access to the site. Other informal paths can be wet and muddy in winter.

Description

Fishponds Wood is hidden behind the houses of Danebury Drive and Rosedale Avenue. The developing woodland of mixed trees and shrubs provides food and cover for songbirds. There is an area of wetland that is the site of an old fishpond.

Beech Grove is a narrow unfenced area alongside the road, with informal paths between the trees. The grove of veteran beech trees is a remnant of an avenue planted when this area was part of the grounds of Acomb Hall.

Events

A programme of children's activities and special events is held at this site. See our webpage for information about events in parks and open spaces.

Buses

Buses run frequently from the city centre to the Acomb shops. Beech Grove is a turning by the Health Centre. Access is by foot or cycle only from this end.

Parking

On-street parking is available on Rosedale Avenue, Beech Grove and Danebury Drive.
