West Bank Park is open daily every day of the year apart from Christmas Day. Opening times are from 8am Monday to Friday and 9am Saturdays and Sundays, closing at dusk. There is easy access except stepped rose garden and woodland path.
This beautiful urban 20-acre park is an unexpected find in the middle of Holgate, occupying the former site of the 19th century Backhouse Nurseries. It boasts a mature woodland and former arboretum at the top end of the park (off Acomb Road) with many specimen trees including dawn redwoods and a giant redwood. The woodland attracts many bird species, including the long tailed tit, goldcrest and greater spotted woodpecker.
The park holds an events licence under the licensing Act 2003. The Events and Festivals team can provide more information on organising an event at this site. Events in the park are also controlled and managed through an Events Protocol - see attachment on the right.
Buses run frequently from the city centre to Acomb Road and stops are by the park gates.
There is a car park for West Bank Park users off James Backhouse Place. On-street parking is available on New Lane or Hamilton Road.
