Bootham Stray Allotments

Wigginton Road, York

This large site, surrounded by stray land and open fields, is just north of the level crossing on Wigginton Road. Although it is only a mile from the city centre, this site has a setting with a sense of the countryside.

Allotment tenants at Bootham Stray are a mix of experienced and new gardeners, pigeon fanciers and poultry keepers. The new allotment association organises social events, to help tenants get to know each other. They also have ambitious plans to improve the site with a secure boundary fence, site cabin, toilet and community gardens and are working on a bid for Big Lottery funding.
