Autistic Spectrum Conditions Team
The Autistic Spectrum Conditions Team provides specialist support for children and young people with autistic spectrum conditions
Referrals
We take referrals from schools, early years settings, parents and other agencies such as health and social services. Parents are always involved
Liaison with medical practitioners
Members of the team attend the monthly meeting of the Autistic Spectrum Disorders Forum which is held at York District Hospital
Improving access to the school environment
We advise the local authority and schools/settings on changes that can be made to the school/setting to aid access for pupils with ASC. We also offer advise on any new building in terms of appropriate flooring, lighting, colours, seating, as these can all have an affect on how a child with ASC settles in school.
Disability Discrimination Act
The Special Educational Needs and Discrimination Act 2001 has made our work easier, as schools are more aware of their responsibilities
