Statements of special educational needs

A statement of special educational needs is a statutory document which sets out the needs of the pupil and the provisions required to meet their needs. These provisions can be educational and non-educational.

If we believe that a statement of special educational needs is appropriate, we will advise the parents of our decision and propose the content of the statement. We will indicate the type of provision we propose for the child, including which school the child should attend.

Parents normally have eight weeks to express views about the content of the statement and the provision to be made before the statement is finalised.

Reviews

Statements are subject to annual review, which will include parental views about the child's progress. Statements can be reviewed at other times if significant concerns arise.
