York Arts Academy

York Arts Academy provides a wide variety of performance opportunities and experiences for all young musicians in York and the surrounding areas.

School age musicians will find it a valuable addition to the training they receive at school or in their lessons, but players of any age will find that they benefit.

York's Arts Academy Centres

York Arts Academy Centre 1 - Canon Lee School

York Arts Academy Centre 1 is held at Canon Lee School, Rawcliffe Drive, Clifton Without, York, YO30 6ZS on Saturday mornings, 9.30am to 1.00pm during term time.

10 September to 15 October 2011
5 November to 10 December 2011
7 January to 4 February 2012
25 February to 24 March 2012
21 April to 26 May 2012
16 June to 14 July 2012

Restarting for Autumn term on Saturday 10th September 2011:-

Big Time Big Band: wind and percussion players grade 4 and above
York Arts Academy Senior Concert Band: wind and percussion players grade 5 and above
Intermediate Concert Band: wind and percussion players grade 1-4
First Strings: for beginner string players up to grade 3
String Orchestra: for string players grade 4-5
York Arts Academy Symphony Orchestra: for players grade 5 and above
Junior Guitars: for beginner guitarists up to grade 2
Senior Guitars: for guitarists of grade 3 and above
Early music Ensembles
Overture early years music activities for ages 3 to 5 and 5 to 8. Cost is £35 per term.
WOW Band. This is open to all pupils involved in the Wider Opportunities scheme in schools. A wide range of instruments are played. Cost is £35 per term

Saturday morning sessions cost £55 per term unless otherwise stated.

York Arts Academy Centre 2 - Millthorpe School

York Arts Academy centre 2 is at Millthorpe School, Nunthorpe Avenue, York, YO23 1WF on Wednesday evenings, 4.30pm to 6.30pm during term time.

22 February to 28 March 2012
18 April to 23 May 2012
13 June to 11 July 2012

Restarting for Autumn term on Wednesday 14th September 2011:-

'Umbu' world drumming: ages 8 to 18
Rock, Pop and Funk bands
Folk Fiddle Bands: strings, percussion and some wind players
String Quartets (Junior and Senior)
York Youth Brass and Wind Ensemble: for beginner to grade 3 players
York Youth Jazz Band: grade 3 and above

Wednesday evening session - £45 per term

York Arts Academy Centre - satellite groups, various sites

York Arts Academy Centre also have various satellite groups, which currently operate at different sites throughout the city. Please contact the Arts and Culture office on 01904 554660 for more information.

Young People's Steel Pans - York High School, Cornlands Road, Acomb, York, YO24 3WZ, £35 per term
Overture (for ages 3 to 8) Introduction to music and movement - St Mary's Primary School, Askham Richard, York, YO23 3PD, £35 per term

Enrolling

Prices are per term for the year 2011/2012. Payment can be made by cheque at York Arts Academy or by post to 18 Back Swinegate, York YO1 8ZD within the first 2 weeks of term. In January payments will be able to be made through Yortime. A medical and photo consent form should be completed by all students and this is available to complete below. Please email completed forms to artseducation@york.gov.uk.
