The Arts service has three consultants who specialise in either dance,
drama or music.
Their services are available to schools, governors, head teachers, support
teachers, education advisors, consultants and pupils.
For teachers we can offer:
- curriculum support for York schools for keystages 1 to 4 as well as
further and higher education
- in service training for teachers
- project opportunities
- annual dance, drama and music festivals
- guidance on examination (GCSE and A level) structure and delivery
- work in partnership with art providers and community groups
- the consultants also organise termly network learning groups and
curriculum support group meetings for teachers
Dance
The dance consultant can offer:
- workshop and performance opportunities for dance companies, groups and
individuals during Dance Week each June and the Dance Festival each
November
- specialist skills including devising dance and collaborative
performances, dance development, choreography, contemporary dance,
traditional jazz and Lindy Hop
- career guidance and training opportunities for students, artists and
educators
Drama
The drama consultant offers:
- career guidance for further/higher education, and for work in
profession theatre
- specialist skills including masked performance, outdoor theatre and
devised performance
Music
The music consultant can offer:
- specialist skills including music technology, rock/pop music,
improvisation and composition
- increased opportunities on popular music making for young people aged
10 to 19 years old through the Bandstrand initiative. See the Bandstrand

Costs
There is no direct charge for curriculum support in schools but a charge
will be made for external consultancy.
