Assistance with school uniform

Eligibility

If you are currently eligible to receive free school meals, and your child is due to start in year 7,8,9, or 10 in September, you may be entitled to assistance with school uniform.

Parents/Carers can apply once a year for assistance with clothing, normally in June for September admission.  Vouchers issued must be spent by the end of October.

How much is the voucher?

In 2011/12 the value of the voucher is:

  • £60 for pupils starting Year 7, and
  • £30 for pupils starting Years 8, 9, or 10.

Unfortunately, vouchers are not available for pupils starting Year 11 or pupils in primary school.

Where can I spend the voucher?

Accepting vouchers is at the retailers' discretion, but in 2010/11 the following retailers accepted vouchers:

  • Barratts
  • BHS
  • Boyes
  • Brantano
  • Chalks
  • New Look
  • Rawcliffes

Alternatively, the vouchers can be redeemed at schools that sell their own uniform, or at the school shop.

How to apply

Assistance for 2011/12 will be available from June 2011. We will automatically send out the vouchers to your child's current school if you are currently in receipt of free school meals, therefore there is no need to apply.  If you are entitled to free school meals but do not claim them, please fill in the education benefits form.
