Teenage pregnancy

City of York Teenage Pregnancy Strategy works in partnership with:

  • the council
  • Selby and York Primary Care Trust
  • York Hospitals Trust

The teenage pregnancy co-ordinator helps implement the strategy; working towards a target of halving the numbers of teenage pregnancy rates by 2010. The strategy includes:

  • work with the media around dispelling myths, publicising sexual health services
  • developing publications for young people around sexual health
  • training staff on working with young people around sexual health and relationships
  • advice and guidance for professionals working with young people
  • improving access to sexual health services
  • developing young people friendly sexual health services
  • developing appropriate services for young parents/pregnant teenagers
  • promoting the Care to Learn scheme (funding for childcare to enable teenage parents to access learning opportunities e.g. college)
  • information and guidance around working with young people to delay early sex.
