School trips provide a valuable opportunity for pupils to encounter experiences which are not available to them in the classroom.
They can enable pupils to develop initiative, resourcefulness and independence. However, it is essential that all such visits are carried out with the highest regard for the safety and welfare of the pupils taking part in them.
Guidelines have been developed to provide helpful and practical advice to governing bodies, headteachers, teachers in the organisation of school visits. These guidelines can be downloaded on this page.
Guidelines are available on the Department for Education website about the health and safety of pupils on educational visits.
