YorKash - funding for projects for young people

£145,000 of YorKash for York's Young People

The YorKash fund is available to support young people's ideas about activities and services, things to do and places to go.

The YorKash panel, made up of a number of York's young people, are distributing £145,000 to other young people's groups across the city this year.

The money will be distributed to young people's groups that are based in York.  Participants must be aged 13-19 years and provide activities/services for young people including things to do and places to go, especially for those most disadvantaged.  Last year, 117 groups received funding for their projects, ranging from purchasing equipment, training courses, residential, to conservation initiatives.  You will find a link to an application form to apply for this funding.

What you can apply for

These are some of the groups we funded last year: £280 to produce a music newsletter, £1950 to buy new computer equipment, £3000 to contribute towards the installation of disabled toilets and £5000 to provide staffing, administration, transport and resource costs to support a disabled group. Some money supported new groups in setting up, other money supported existing groups doing new projects or activities.

The rules

The project must meet the following rules:

  • Be based on ideas that have come from young people
  • Funding bids should be between £5k - £30k
  • Be for 13-19 year olds
  • Be achievable
  • Be from new or existing groups
  • Have long term benefits for young people
  • Young people should be fully involved in applying for the money
  • Allow young people an opportunity to develop personally and socially
  • Provide activities and services for young people, things to do and places to go, especially for those most disadvantaged in society

What happens after I've applied?

The application will be assessed by a group of young people drawn from across the city. They will mark and select successful applications. You will notice that there are marks next to some of the questions, which will be given for quality answers and not quantity.
