Learning for Life course guide

Learning for Life brochure

Learning for Life brings together the main organisations offering part-time adult education courses at venues across the City of York and surrounding areas.   The current brochure  covers courses starting in the Spring & Summer terms.

The next brochure will be available to download from 30 June 2008, and will feature courses starting in the autumn term.

How to sign up for a course

In person

Call in to Future Prospects. You may also be able to enrol on the first night of the class, check with the organisation providing the course.

You will need to tell us:

  • the course code
  • how you are going to pay
  • if you are claiming a reduced fee (you will need to give evidence that you are entitled to claim.

Paying for your course

The cost of courses depends on:

  • the length of the course
  • if the course has a qualification
  • if the course has a government subsidy

If the cost of your course is over £50.00, you may be able to pay by installment. Please ask about this option at Future Prospects.

Free courses

Some courses are free to everyone. These courses are listed as FREE on the course guide.

You may also be entitled to a free course if you are on a low income. This could be if you receive benefits, such as Housing Benefit, or tax credits at a certain level. Find out more about this in the guide's introduction and ask whether you are entitled to a free course when you enrol.

For some courses there will be an administration fee to pay.

Reduced fees

Reduced fees are available to certain groups of people on some courses - check when you enrol. You will need to provide proof that you can claim reduced fees.

The over 60s reduction is only available for some recreational courses - check when you enrol. You will need to provide proof of your age

What does the cost of my course include?

Some courses may have additional costs over and above the fee listed in the guide- check when you enrol.

When does Learning for Life come out?

  • Learning for Life Autumn 2008: Distributed door-to-door by Royal Mail from Monday 30 June 2008.
  • Learning for Life Sprin/Summer 2009: Distributed door-to-door with Your Local Link magazine January 2009. 

Copies of the latest Learning for Life will also be available for you to pick up from Future Prospects and your local library.
