What is Take Part York

Take Part York aims to add to the social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL), the Personal, Social, Heath and Economic education (PSHE), the Active Citizenship of pupils and to support the Community Cohesion Agenda.

Take part York is offering sessions which can help us all work together to achieve these goals. These sessions can be tailored to suit your curriculum or the needs of your pupils. Working with both primary and secondary schools to provide;

  • Seminars
  • Workshops
  • Classroom-based sessions
  • Walking around a specific are, street or the school
  • Interactive questions/answers
  • Working with partners (e.g. Police, Young People’s Service, Health Authority etc.)

Three strands: Wards, School Councils, Youth Council

The project will work with three main strands;

  • Ward Committees

We want to establish and develop a sense that young people are a genuine part of the process which makes a real difference in shaping neighbourhoods.

  • Development of School Councils

We plan to hold workshops at the Annual Schools Council Conference which is organised and run by young people.

  • Creation of a Youth Council

We want the Youth Council to be a high profile group that can influence city-wide democratic structures.

The project will involve children and young people in the democratic process so that they feel they can influence decisions that affect them. This will lead to a more detailed engagement with them where we can;

  • Assess the local needs and aspirations
  • Trial methods of engagement
  • Build resources and knowledge
  • Develop ‘toolkits’ to work with young people
  • Commission ward-based local improvement schemes relating to young people
  • Have a range of information available for young people and practitioners.
