York's budget

2008/09 budget

A balanced budget of expenditure and income which will require a 4.75 per cent increase in Council Tax for council services for 2008/09 was approved on 21 February 2008.

This takes the Band D charge for council services from £982.06 (excluding fire and police charges and parish precepts) to £1028.74, an increase of just under 90p per week for a Band D property.

Councillors also voted to:

  • retain Travel Tokens for people aged 60 and over, though the value of the tokens will be reduced from £40 to £20 saving a total of £51,000
  • reduce the number of Executive and Shadow Executive members from nine on each 'committee' to seven, saving a total of £44,000
  • to carry out a review of spending on Leisure and Culture, Property and Community Transport
