Fraud and corruption

Fraud committed against us constitutes a theft of taxpayers money. It is unlawful and deprives us of resources which would otherwise be available to provide services. By putting in place effective measures to counter the risk of fraud and corruption we can reduce losses which would impact on service delivery.

Policies on fraud

The Fraud Team is responsible for:

  • policies on countering fraud and corruption
  • leading on fraud prevention and detection issues
  • investigating any suspected cases of fraud or corruption

This work is undertaken in accordance with our Counter Fraud and Corruption Policy. Where fraud is discovered we will take action against whoever has committed it in accordance with our Fraud and Corruption Prosecution Policy and/or our disciplinary procedures.

How to report fraud

If you suspect anyone has committed fraud against us please contact us. Give us as much information as you can. All information given is kept confidential. Members of City of York staff can report fraud using the whistleblowing procedure.
