City Of York Council

Spring Clean 2008

In a bid to clean up the city before the summer season, our Neighbourhood Pride service will be undertaking additional cleaning during May.

The Spring Clean campaign will run from 6 to 30 May 2008.

On top of our normal cleansing rounds, Neighbourhood Pride service staff will be undertaking a 'deep' cleanse of a number of York's grottiest recreation areas, shopping precincts and snickleways. These are areas that are not part of our normal cleansing rounds, and so we reply on the public to tell us that they are dirty.

We have chosen areas to get some additional attention by using the results from our annual cleanliness survey. This showed that overall the city was slowly getting cleaner - but there were areas that had unacceptable levels of litter and dirt lying around.

There is also a community safety aspect to the work. By cleaning up we can try to prevent some areas from becoming a focus for anti-social behaviour and vandalism.

During May we will also be launching a number of new initiatives that will help keep York looking good through the rest of the year, and encouraging people to get involved themselves in improving the quality of the local environment near to where they live.

It is important that you tell us about areas that you feel need a clean and brush up.  During the next 4 weeks we are encouraging residents to send us a postcard letting us know what needs cleaning. There are a number if ways to let us know:
