Tenancy Strategy Consultation - City of York Council
Consultation Summary Closed

The following survey asks for your views regarding the draft Tenancy Strategy. It covers four specific topic areas - tenancies, the affordable housing register and the allocation of homes, using the private rented sector to address homelessness, enabling greater mobility within the social rented sector. We welcome any views and comments regarding all aspects of the Strategy. You can access a more detailed consultation document by visiting http://www.york.gov.uk/housing/Housing_plans_and_strategies/hsg_tenancy-strat/ .We would expect housing providers and other local partner agencies to complete this more detailed consultation.

Background
The Localism Act 2011 introduced a number of social housing reforms, including placing a new duty on all Local Authorities to publish a Strategic Tenancy Strategy. The draft strategy sets out how we intend to utilise the new freedoms granted to us as part of the Act and gives guidance to other providers of social housing that are active within our city.

Local social housing providers are obliged to have regard to anything the council sets out within the strategy when they are develop their own tenancy policies.

Existing tenants will not be affected by these changes.
