York Youth council are a group of young people from all over the city who represent the voice of young people in York. They work to make a difference and positive changes for the young people of York.
This year they are working on three main projects:
The youth council are currently organising the Festival of Youth which will take place on the 16 July, in Rowntree Park. Last year was a great success with over 2000 enjoyed the weekend and watched 250 participants. There will be more stalls, live music, drama, dance, sports and much more but we need your help.
Put this date in your diary to come and join in the fun!
If you would like to get involved in performing, running a stall or helping backstage please contact carole.pugh@york.gov.uk tel. 01904 552358
We are still working towards opening a city centre venue for young people to use. Although in the last year we have raised a lot of funds we still are a bit short so any ideas of fund raising please contact sarah.nicholson@york.gov.uk.
Our other major campaign is promoting the image of young people in York. We are organising a variety of events including an art exhibition, a vintage fashion show, a session at the city screen cinema. So look out for these going on.
As the youth council we also get involved in lots of events in York and are asked to give the voice of young people to different services and contribute to consultations and strategies.
York also has a member and two deputies on UK Youth Parliament, which involves meeting up with other young people across the region and the country to discuss issues affecting them and working toward positive change for the region and the country.
For more information about any of the activities above please speak to your school representative or contact sarah.nicholson@york.gov.uk tel. 01904 554358.
