Working with young people

If you work with, or would like to work with, young people you can get advice and support from the Youth Service.

For more information about any of the facilities below contact the Youth Service.

Building hire

The Youth Service has a number of centres, mainly halls, around the city. These can be hired by anyone although youth organisations and voluntary groups receive discounted rates.

Tier 1: £2.45 per hour (only if you work with young people within the age range of 14-21 on a non-profit making basis and work within the Young People's Service remit)
Tier 2: £4.75 per hour (if you work with people outside this age range on a non-profit making basis, i.e. if your organisation is run by a constituted committee)
Tier 3: £9.45 per hour (in any other circumstances).
If you wish to make a one-off booking outside normal working hours you will be charged an additional £20.00 to cover caretaking costs.

Training

The Young People's Service runs in-service and external training covering many areas of work with young people.  If you are interested in becoming qualified to work with young people please contact Kay Tate on 01904 552354.  Qualifying routes are currently in the process of change but Kay will be able to advise you of the latest information. Most training is based at the Kingswater Centre, Clifton Green Primary School, Kingsway North, York.

Equipment and resources

We can provide access to equipment and resources for working with young people, including camping equipment. Most equipment hire is free although we may ask for a deposit. A charge may be levied for larger items. Again there are discounted rates for youth organisations and voluntary groups.
