Social inclusion

Social inclusion means ensuring that everyone has the means and ability to access the services they require to participate fully in society.

A socially included person will have access to and the ability to generate adequate wealth. They will also have adequate housing, health, employment, educational attainment, transport, community involvement and leisure activities and live in an area of low crime.

Social inclusion policy

This policy identifies how we aim to ensure that all residents, council employees and visitors to York are socially included.

Social inclusion resource document

The social inclusion policy links to and is supported by our social inclusion resource document, which also contains information on:

  • A baseline of social inclusion data for York.
  • An audit of our work on social inclusion, internally and in partnership - the audit shows how we are meeting our social inclusion objectives.
  • Performance monitoring arrangements for social inclusion work.
