Shared Foundation for Children

Shared Foundation for Children is an intiative that develops the way York provides education, care and play for children aged three to five and their famillies. This partnership between the local education authority, parents and practitioners helps develop more choices for families.

Shared foundation community partnerships

Wraparound care around a child's early education place provides a whole day of education and care, before and after 'school'. From the child's point of view the provision is seamless.

Infant and primary schools in York are working in partnership with local providers of early years education and childcare to provide wraparound care.

Special needs and foundation stage curriculum

Partnerships are commited to providing continued support to children with special needs. Each partnership has a special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO) to provide support to children from an early age.

Each partnership also has an area qualified teacher to ensure the foundation stage curriculum is central to the workings of the partnership.
