Accidents at work

If you have an accident in a workplace, as an employee or a customer, it may need to be reported by law.

See health and safety for council services and employees if your accident took place on council premises.

Accidents that need to be reported

Employees

If you are absent from work for more than three days, in hospital for more than 24 hours or suffer a major injury, eg fracture, loss of sight.

Non-employees

If you have to be taken directly from the workplace to hospital for treatment.

How to report an accident

Employers should report accidents to the local authority or the Incident Contact Centre (ICC). Download the accident report form here and post it to us or send it to the ICC by fax or email.

Reporting your own accident

Employees and members of the public who need to report an accident should contact the Health and Safety team directly.
